Job Responsibilities:
CAPLAW, a Boston-based, nonprofit legal services organization providing legal assistance to a national network of organizations dedicated to poverty alleviation seeks a full-time Staff Attorney. The Staff Attorney will research, write and edit legal publications such as newsletters, e-bulletins, website content and more in-depth publications. Assist other CAPLAW attorneys in advising, CAAs and others in the Community Action network on a wide range of legal and financial matters such as Internal Revenue Code requirements for tax-exempt organizations, nonprofit corporate law and corporate governance, employment law, federal grant law, and administrative law. Prepare, coordinate, and in some cases, present training seminars on legal issues for CAAs, including CAPLAW’s annual conference, webinars and other training workshops throughout the country. Some travel required. 

Job Qualifications:
Minimum of a JD degree and license to practice law in at least one state in the United States required. Experience with and knowledge of tax-exempt organization law, corporate law and governance, employment law, administrative law, federal grant management and/or nonprofit management experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to translate legal concepts into lay terms required. Must have excellent research, writing and public speaking skills. Proven capability to take initiative, handle a variety of tasks, set priorities and manage multiple deadlines. Experience that evidences excellent analytical and pro-active problem solving skills. Ability to maintain flexibility in changing and sometimes ambiguous legal environment. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team with strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
