Job Responsibilities:
The mission of Community Action Program Legal Services (CAPLAW) is to eliminate poverty by strengthening the legal and management capacity of community organizations. CAPLAW is the national legal expert for the Community Action network. Through consultations, training and resources we equip approximately 1,000 Community Action Agencies (CAAs) across the country, including Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD), with the knowledge and tools to operate as accountable and effective change agents. We also provide guidance to federal, state and national Community Action partners on legal and financial issues affecting CAAS.

Responsible for coordinating and carrying out the daily office operations, as well as longer term projects, of the CAPLAW organization and the ABCD Legal Department. Work closely with and support the CAPLAW Executive Director/ABCD General Counsel, Deputy Director/Senior Counsel and other CAPLAW staff in carrying out their responsibilities, but to a large extent uses own judgment, initiative, and discretion in determining the individual tasks to be accomplished and the manner in which those tasks are completed. Maintain and develop effective means of organizing records for office and grant purposes. Answer/respond to telephone calls and e-mail and/or refer to appropriate persons for response. Review and respond to correspondence and/or respond to appropriate persons for response. Facilitate fiscal operations such as initiating process for payment of invoices and deposit of payments; tracking and facilitating travel reimbursements; reconciling monthly bank statements; and interacting with vendors on payment issues. Maintain all corporate filings and renewals. Assist with maintaining CAPLAW membership including corresponding with members, maintaining the database and seeking/processing membership dues. Prepare materials and reports for CAPLAW Board meetings, and grant applications. Conduct wide variety of tasks necessary to present annual CAPLAW conference including: coordinating communications with speakers; handling continuing education credits; overseeing conference volunteers; coordinating pre-conference tour and special events; and other tasks as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Job Qualifications:
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and one to three years of office management/administration experience is required. Bachelor’s degree in a related field strongly preferred. Interest in nonprofit and legal issues and communications with members and the public are a plus. Must be detail-oriented, independent, resourceful, and well-organized with excellent oral and written communication and analysis skills. Ability to work with databases (ex. Salesforce, Eventbrite) and have a willingness to learn new skills and subject areas. Must have the ability to work effectively with persons from a wide variety of backgrounds and income levels.
