Job Responsibilities:
The mission of Community Action Program Legal Services (CAPLAW) is to eliminate poverty by strengthening the legal and management capacity of community organizations. CAPLAW is the national legal expert for the Community Action network. Through consultations, training and resources we equip approximately 1,000 Community Action Agencies (CAAs) across the country with the knowledge and tools to operate as accountable and effective change agents. We also provide guidance to federal, state, and national Community Action partners on legal and financial issues affecting CAAS.

Responsible for overseeing the daily office operations of CAPLAW and the ABCD Legal Department with a focus on improving efficiency, productivity, and coordination across the organizations. Prepare materials and reports for CAPLAW Board meeting. Maintain CAPLAW membership including corresponding with members, updating the database, and seeking/processing membership dues in coordination with CAPLAW’s Events and Communications Coordinator. Assist with the coordination of personnel matters in connection with ABCD’s HR Department. Compile and maintain materials and information for CAPLAW grant applications and reports. Assist with responding to subpoenas, including conducting document reviews. Coordinate travel and meeting arrangements. Facilitate day-to-day recordkeeping and filing needed to support CAPLAW’s booking-keeping. Initiate process for paying invoices and depositing payments. Track and facilitate travel reimbursements. Reconcile monthly bank and credit card statements. Review and recommend, as necessary, the adjustment of journal entries in the general ledger. Analyze and review financial reports for errors and discrepancies. Assist with grant and project tracking and invoicing. Coordinate, collect, and review time cards of staff, as well as reconcile time cards with monthly time allocations prepared for the ABCD Finance Department. Prepare documents for CAPLAW’s annual audit. Provide auditor with information needed to prepare Form 990 and schedules. Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Job Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, accounting, or business administration. One to three years of business administration/financial management experience required. Interest in nonprofit and legal issues and communications with organization members and the public are a plus. Must be detail-oriented, independent, resourceful, and well organized. Excellent oral and written communication and analysis skills. Understanding of accounting principles. Superior computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and demonstrated experience working with Excel spreadsheets. Ability to work with databases (ex. Salesforce, Eventbrite). Ability to work effectively with persons from a wide variety of backgrounds and income levels. Prior experience with Quickbooks or other accounting software preferred.
