Youth Worker - Ostiguy Prevention Program

Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for guiding participating schools and community partners in developing substance abuse policies and procedures that align with the Massachusetts Tiered Systems of Supports. Provide staff at participating schools and community partners with the training and information necessary to identify youth with potential substance use issues, as well as assist in facilitating the necessary interventions and referrals. Ensure that each participating school and community partner incorporates a comprehensive, culturally competent substance abuse component into their behavior health education curriculum. Provide screening, motivational interviewing based counseling, and connection to resources for youth. Provide small group substance abuse prevention/education classes to participating school and community partners. Prepare and enter monthly data and written reports as appropriate on both qualitative and quantitative results on program activities, including but not limited to participant evaluations, program contacts, program agendas, demographic information, and referrals. Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Job Qualifications:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in human services, education, social sciences, or related field and one to three years of related experience required. Knowledge of high school-aged youth, their problems and issues and their academic social and emotional needs. Must have knowledge of substance use/abuse issues and their effect on youth. Knowledge of recovery substance abuse issues. Familiarity with greater Boston area community and social service agencies. Ability to organize and experience in facilitating group/education workshops. Ability to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgement, as well as collaboratively within a team. Must have knowledge and skills using electronic databases and spreadsheets; including Excel and Microsoft Word. Bilingual skills strongly preferred.
