Job Responsibilities:
First Steps into Early Childhood Education Careers (First Steps) is designed to recruit, train, and develop job placements for adults who are interested in careers in the field of early childhood education—a field where the right people can make a lasting difference in the lives of young children. There is a strong demand for entry level teaching jobs in early education and a well-defined career path that enables motivated candidates to move from assistant teacher to teacher to lead teacher and leadership positions.

Responsible for providing a full range of career assessment, counseling, and college referral services for First Steps participants. Design and refine appropriate assessment and career coaching tools. Conduct professional development assessment with each First Steps participant. Analyze assessment results and help First Steps participant develop an individual written career plan. Conduct individual and group trainings on career path related topics. Work closely with Head Start & Children’s Services Central staff to coordinate the First Steps participant’s professional development progress and with colleges to coordinate appropriate credit attainment. Conduct regular classroom observations and provide feedback that encompass goal setting and planning to improve the quality of teaching practices. Attend workshops, conferences, and other necessary trainings to support component goals. Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Job Qualifications:
Minimum of an Associate’s degree in human services, education or related field with at least two years of experience in job development, placement or career counseling required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Strong knowledge of Early Childhood Education, career opportunities, and the job market. Knowledge of career assessment and career decision making tools and resources. Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Proven ability to multitask and balance work projects. Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision and achieve established goals. Bilingual skills highly desirable. Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
