Overview:

Action for Boston Community Development is a nonprofit human services organization that each year provides more than 100,000 low income residents in the Greater Boston region with the tools and resources needed to transition from poverty to stability and from stability to success. 

The Health Services Department is committed to maintaining the optimal health of low-income residents of Boston and surrounding communities through the ABCD Family Planning Partnership and several cutting-edge, community-based disease prevention and health promotion programs. Health Services fosters community partnerships to strengthen and broaden the array of services available and to address the health of the whole individual. 

Duties Include: 

  • Responsible for outreach and recruitment of the target population for the SAMHSA-funded 3 Steps in 30 days program
  • Conduct evidenced-based individual and group level interventions with the target population regarding HIV, Sexually Transmitted infections, substance use, and Hepatitis C infection
  • Conduct program evaluation activities, data collection, and participant follow-up according to program procedures and funder guidelines
  • Identify heal/social service agencies and nontraditional partners for community-based capacity building training for providers to increase awareness of the impact of HIV/STI, Hep C, and substance abuse on the target population
  • Conduct linguistically appropriate, culturally/gender appropriate responsive community outreach, social media, and recruitment activities according to program guidelines
  • Identify health, social, civic and cultural events for outreach and recruitment of program target populations
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive community and social media outreach strategy to increase recruitment
  • Assess the sexual health education needs of the community through direct contact and other appropriate assessment techniques Provide referrals and ensure smooth access to reproductive/family planning and sexual health care services, HIV C&T, and substance abuse services, and other support services that support retention of program participants
  • Develop and maintain close collaborations with all ABCD programs, health and community based social services agencies, nontraditional partners for recruitment of the target populations
  • Participate in Program Advisory Committee meetings
  • Ensure that all educational material used in outreach programs are approved by the Information and Education Materials Review Committee
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times
  • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time

Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, and one to three years of experience in outreach and/or health education required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience providing community-based outreach and prevention education with a variety of target populations that include adolescents, young adult women of color and LGBTQ+ strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with greater Boston area community and social services agencies and non-traditional public health partners
  • Excellent knowledge of reproductive/family planning and sexual health education that includes HIV/STI, HIV Testing, and Hepatitis C substance use
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and facilitate group education/workshops and community events
  • Ability to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds, particularly in communities of color
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgement, as well as to collaborate effectively within a team
  • Flexibility to work early morning, evening and weekend hours, and willingness to travel and work extensively in diverse neighborhoods
  • Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills
  • Knowledge and skill using electronic databases and spreadsheets
  • Bilingual with the ability to read, write and speak proficiently in at least one other language than English desired with preference for Spanish speaking
