Overview:

Action for Boston Community Development is a nonprofit human services organization that each year provides more than 100,000 low income residents in the Greater Boston region with the tools and resources needed to transition from poverty to stability and from stability to success. 

ABCD provides emergency food pantry services to households across Greater Boston through its Food Insecurity Program. The Mobile Food Pantry Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Food Insecurity Program in the planning and execution of distributions of various food resources while targeting remote and underserved areas, consistently practicing the policies in food storage and record-keeping.

Duties include: 

  • Transport perishable and non-perishable food items to designated distribution locations.
  • Deliver supplies to sites as needed.
  • Return food containers to sites daily.
  • Store food and equipment appropriately in an organized manner both in the vehicle as well as at the program.
  • Adhere to delivery routes and schedules in order to ensure that safe food temperatures for perishable and non-perishable foods are maintained.
  • Maintain established standards of sanitation and safety, including but not limited to the following: report to the Program Director information about their health and activities as they relate to diseases that are transmissible through food; delivery vehicles must be clean and well maintained; maintain records pertaining to food safety if necessary; attend food safety and food allergy training as necessary.
  • Conduct inventory and stock shelves and refrigerators with other truck delivery sites.
  • Complete food temperature log.
  • Deliver food to ABCD Sites and partner agencies.
  • Conduct and document Food Safety checklist at delivery sites.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent, with up to one year of experience required.
  • Ability to obtain a Food Pantry Safety Workshop certification within the first six months of employment required.
  • Experience and knowledge of warehouse operations preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, proof of car insurance, and a good driving record, as well as access to reliable vehicle to make deliveries.
  • Must work in varied work environments (indoors and outdoors) exposed to heat and cold.
  • Extensive walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying items.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time and lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to organize work, time, and self.
  • Good organizational, communication and time management skills.
  • Must be flexible, prompt and reliable.
  • Comfortable working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, social orientations, and racial diversity.
