Overview:

Action for Boston Community Development is a nonprofit human services organization that each year provides more than 100,000 low income residents in the Greater Boston region with the tools and resources needed to transition from poverty to stability and from stability to success. 

Duties include: 

  • Assist with food preparation for the Senior Program, service and storage of nutritious meals and snacks.
  • Check all incoming food orders against invoices for quantity and quality at the time of delivery. 
  • Store food and equipment appropriately in an organized manner.
  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for the seniors.
  • Maintain established standards of sanitation, safety and food preparation, including the following:
    • Wash and sterilize dishes, pots and utensils.
    • Clean the refrigerator, stove, bins and cupboards according to a designated schedule.
    • Scrub counters and sinks after meals.
    • Sweep and mop the kitchen floor, as needed.
    • Maintain records pertaining to food service operations, including amounts of food used, daily head counts and inventory.
  • Develop and test recipes and products.
  • Cooperate and participate in senior center programs.
  • Distribute food baskets to clients as needed.
  • Perform other related duties, as required.
     

Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent, with up to one year of previous experience in quantity food preparation required.
  • Demonstrated ability in quantity food preparation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to read, maintain records and prepare simple written reports.
  • Must be able to balance and prioritize work load, have strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
  • Occasional lifting up to 15 pounds, stooping, bending standing and reaching.
