Overview:
Action for Boston Community Development is a nonprofit human services organization that each year provides more than 100,000 low income residents in the Greater Boston region with the tools and resources needed to transition from poverty to stability and from stability to success.

ABCD Head Start & Children's Services is a family development program serving children from birth to age five, as well as pregnant women. Part of a highly successful national program, we provide comprehensive services to the whole family and foster a safe, creative learning environment to support children in school readiness and their social-emotional development. We are looking for dedicated individuals who want to make a meaningful impact on the communities we serve!

The “Improving Preschool Outcomes by Addressing Maternal Depression in Head Start” initiative, is a partnership between ABCD Head Start & Children’s Services, Brown University, and Boston Medical Center. It is aimed at identifying and preventing maternal depression through direct intervention and linkages to formal mental health services. The Interventionist is responsible for all activities associated with the initiative. 


Duties Include:
  • Coordinate with local program staff and Central office staff to conduct depression screenings and analyze results.
  • Engage a specified number of parents per year by conducting one-on-one sessions to deliver the intervention in accordance with research project requirements on a weekly or bi-weekly basis for 6 to 12 weeks.
  • Refer families to formal mental health services in accordance with research project requirements.
  • Maintain up to date records of all assigned families through paper documentation and database system(s) used by the agency and/or the research project requirements. 
  • Attend required meetings and trainings on and off site, as needed. 
  • Perform administrative work as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Job Qualifications:
  • A Minimum of a high school diploma/equivalent with some college coursework required. 
  • Up to one year of experience in maternal and child health required.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish is preferred. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a willingness to engage in ongoing staff development to expand professional skills.
  • Knowledge of neighborhoods served by program and city-wide services relevant to the programs population. 
  • Proven ability to keep accurate written records and documentation. 
  • Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
