Overview:

Action for Boston Community Development is a nonprofit human services organization that each year provides more than 100,000 low income residents in the Greater Boston region with the tools and resources needed to transition from poverty to stability and from stability to success. 

ABCD Head Start & Children's Services is a family development program serving children from birth to age five, as well as pregnant women. Part of a highly successful national program, we provide comprehensive services to the whole family and foster a safe, creative learning environment to support children in school readiness and their social-emotional development. The Administrative Assistant/Billing Clerk is responsible for promoting the mission of ABCD Head Start & Children’s Services; building an understanding of the program by communicating this mission to staff, families and the community. 

Duties include:

  • Responsible for the program’s daily clerical functions and general office procedures to ensure that established policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Maintain records for miscellaneous correspondence, telephone conversations, and in-house communications.
  • Work closely with other departments regarding purchasing, personnel, payroll and other administrative matters.
  • Assist families with enrollment applications and provide important information regarding the program.
  • Maintain and assess monthly parent fees and assist with monthly reports.
  • Review current clerical procedures and develop suggestions for improvement as needed.
  • Assist staff in completing assignments as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of experience in a human service agency and a solid background in general office practice required.
  • Associate’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to keep accurate written records and documentation.
  • Must have the ability to work independently without intensive supervision, to balance and prioritize workload, and have strong time management skills.
  • Bilingual skills and the ability to translate as necessary preferred.
  • Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
