Overview:

Action for Boston Community Development is a nonprofit human services organization that each year provides more than 100,000 low income residents in the Greater Boston region with the tools and resources needed to transition from poverty to stability and from stability to success.

The AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent program matches Foster Grandparents with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school age children to provide mentorship, guidance, and companionships that give kids the confidence they need to succeed–to beat the odds and overcome academic challenges and other obstacles.

Duties include: 

  • Responsible for managing the recruitment, orientation and training activities process for the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent volunteers in Boston, Quincy and /or Eastern Middlesex area.
  • Monitor, evaluate and conduct site visits of volunteer stations to ensure quality services are delivered effectively.  
  • Secure, maintain and update required forms in volunteer files.
  • Ensure application and criminal history checks on all volunteers are performed prior to service.
  • Ensure required payroll documents are received and processed in a timely manner.
  • Act as liaison between volunteer stations and volunteers working with young children. 
  • Translate as needed all Foster Grandparent Program brochures, flyers, training materials, and other relevant information for the volunteers.
  • Assist Program Manager and or Program Director with special projects as needed.
  • Plan pre-service and monthly trainings/ meetings for participating AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent volunteers and provide needed materials. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.
     

Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a High school diploma/GED and one to three years related work experience required.  An Associate’s Degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
  • Ability to travel to various volunteer stations.
  • Bilingual skills with the ability to read, write and speak in Spanish or Chinese.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft and Google suites.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable in the needs of the senior citizen population.
  • Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with persons of diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Please note: Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
