Overview:

Action for Boston Community Development is a nonprofit human services organization that each year provides more than 100,000 low income residents in the Greater Boston region with the tools and resources needed to transition from poverty to stability and from stability to success. 

The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program provides community members services to learn English or improve their ability to speak, read and write in English.

Duties include:

  • Responsible for the overall coordination, administration, and educational leadership of ABCD’s ESOL Program. 
  • Complete program staff performance evaluations and work with program staff to develop annual professional development objectives.
  • Facilitate program management meetings.
  • Ensure the effective use of volunteers and tutors.
  • Work with appropriate internal ABCD and Department staff on invoicing, budget amendments, and reports for DESE.
  • Develop and monitor budgets relative to grant proposals and grants awarded, including monitoring of program expenditures.
  • Monitor and evaluate program and student performance; implement changes necessary to meet or exceed programmatic goals.
  • Ensure the coordinated delivery of in-person, hybrid, online, and asynchronous instruction, including the integration and delivery of digital literacy efforts.
  • Responsible for assisting with designing and creating instructional materials and evaluation instruments which measure the effectiveness of teaching and program completion.
  • Attend professional development workshops and conferences, as appropriate and as resources permit.
  • Complete and submit ABCD monthly reports and reports to funders in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with ABCD departments and staff to ensure that the program meets current ADA requirements.
  • Oversee all data collection and reporting requirements required by funders. 
  • Monitor and evaluate program and student performance; implement changes necessary to meet or exceed programmatic goals.
  • Facilitate curriculum and assessment meetings for ESOL Instructors.
  • Conduct classroom observation during the school year.
  • Oversee the administration of all required Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) assessment testing.
  • Monitor LACES data collection and entry.
  • Establish and maintain communication with other ESOL providers in Boston and across M including participation in ESOL Program Director meetings.
  • Establish and maintain, in a coordinated and structured manner, partnering relationships and communication with post-secondary institutions, job training providers, and other agencies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field is required.
  • One to three years teaching experience with adults, preferably in ABE,or ESOL required.
  • Certification in BEST Plus 2.0 and TABE CLAS-E Reading and Writing preferred.
  • Certification in administering and scoring the TABE Reading and Writing and BEST Plus 2.0 preferred.
  • Experience in administration of educational programming preferred.
  • Experience working and teaching adult learners and diverse populations preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred. 
  • Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
