Overview:
Action for Boston Community Development is a nonprofit human services organization that each year provides more than 100,000 low income residents in the Greater Boston region with the tools and resources needed to transition from poverty to stability and from stability to success. 

ABCD Head Start & Children's Services is a family development program serving children from birth to age five, as well as pregnant women. Part of a highly successful national program, we provide comprehensive services to the whole family and foster a safe, creative learning environment to support children in school readiness and their social-emotional development. We are looking for dedicated individuals who want to make a meaningful impact on the communities we serve!

Duties include:
  • Responsible for assisting Teachers with the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team
  • Provide preschool aged children with a nurturing, safe and healthy environment and individualized learning experiences to help them develop socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally in achieving social competency
  • Participate in a minimum of two home visits and three parent/teacher conferences per family per year
  • Participate in the development of and implementation of developmentally-appropriate lesson plans and individualized activities
  • Participate in the development and implementation of written Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) for the children with special needs
  • Attend meetings as necessary
  • Maintain the EEC requirements including child to staff ratios, classroom supervision, etc
  • Provide classroom coverage as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time

Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must have Active Preschool Child Development Associate Credential; ECE Certificate or EEC Preschool Lead Teacher certified, or enrolled in a degree program leading to an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field, or enrolled in a CDA program to be completed within two years. EEC preschool teacher certified preferred
  • Experience teaching preschool age children
  • Good interpersonal skills required
  • Bilingual skills where appropriate preferred
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries with staff and families
  • Must be able to engage in physical activities while attending to the needs of the center’s children and/or moving classroom equipment
  • Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
